Go and give it a swing: My flying trapeze experience

A few weeks ago, I read an article from Trekeffect about the 15 Incredible Outdoor Adventures to Conquer in the Philippines and found out about the Flying Trapeze. The next thing I knew I booked a class.

“Throw your heart over the bar, and your body will follow.”

-From the Power of Positive Thinking by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale

According to Wikipedia, The flying trapeze is a specific form of the trapeze where a performer jumps from a platform with the trapeze so that gravity makes the trapeze swing.

Most of my friends told me I’m crazy, and most of the time I like to agree with them. As a person who has an irrational fear of heights and falling, I was doomed. Well, not really.

Climbing up!

The Flying Trapeze Philippines is the FIRST AND ONLY full-scale flying trapeze rig in the Philippines and one of only a few in all of Asia. They offer walk-in rates, for Php 200 for 1 swing and Php 500 for 3 swings, and 2-hour classes for Php 1,000 on weekdays, Php 1,250 on weekends and Php 1,250 on holidays.

I was originally scheduled for a Friday afternoon class. However due to the storm that week, it got cancelled and same with our trek to Mt. Pinatubo that following Sunday. Instead, we ended up going around Bonifacio Global City. Since it was a clear day, I rescheduled my class on that same day.

Fly!

The moment I booked my class, I felt scared and excited for doing something as crazy as this. When I climbed the ladder for my first jump, I kept talking to myself that I could do it and when I reached the top, there was no other way down but to jump! I had to keep repeating that mantra every single time.

The adrenaline rush you feel after you jump, swing and hook up your legs on that bar was astounding, especially when you get to do the back flip and when they are able to catch you. Believe me, it took me awhile to get the hang of it, even after experiencing leg cramps on both of my legs and sprained my ankle after a fall, but I did it!

Before you can do all the amazing stuff, they’ll give a short orientation on what and what not to do, the basic positions that you need to do. It’s quite easy as long as you follow the instructions. 😀

You do need to wear a comfortable attire, that way you can move freely. You can check the photos and the video at the end! 😉
