Surfing in Lacanau Océan (Or At Least Tried To Surf)

Lacanau is a small town, just 2 hours away from Bordeaux. It is one of the surfing spots in southwestern France and mostly packed during summer.

There are only a few hostels and camps open during off season. I just stayed at UCPA Lacanau and booked a surf class at Ocean Ride.

I stayed for the weekend and tried to surf. Unfortunately, it was an epic failed attempt. The current and the wind was too strong, I failed to catch a single wave on my own. The instructor was kind enough to push me once and I was able to stand up for a bit but after that, I just kept on falling off board.

At some point while walking towards to catch a wave, I got leg cramps. It was too strong that my right leg gave in. I was stuck and could hardly move and a wave was coming towards me. I couldn’t do anything if I stayed in the water. I just jumped on my board and let the waves take me to the shore. I saw the instructor, who was at the shore, confused, shouting at me what was wrong.

When I reached the shore, I rested and relaxed my leg a little bit. I did a bit of first aid massage on my leg and after awhile, I still went back to the sea to try again. Since I was just attending a surf class, it only lasted for a few hours. I wasn’t able to get on board again until the session ended.

I was disappointed with myself but then again, I know I can come back again. This time I am going in the summer cause the water was freezing at the time when I went there. LOL.

Love, J.

    1. I totally agree! I love it whenever I get to ride the waves. I’m trying again this summer and hopefully, it’ll be a success. LOL. Cheers!

  3. Love your photos! At least you tried to surf hehe. I also tried surfing for the first time last year, it was a lot more tiring than I thought it would be! Haha. Had fun tho 😛

  4. Jane. The effort that you managed to wait and stay on matters. I know it feels like a bummer to not use the day for the surfing, but I am sure you would have found a diff place as a next time.
