For our late summer trip, we decided to visit Malta after watching one of BTS’s variety shows called ‘Bon Voyage’ which featured the small island in 2018. Malta is a small island country located in the Mediterranean Sea, south of Sicily. It is situated at the crossroads of Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, making it a unique and strategic location with a rich cultural heritage.
We spent a total of 8 days on the island – 2 days allocated for flying in and flying out, 1 day for transferring to another hotel, 4 days going around to see the island, and 1 day to relax before going back to reality.
To get around the island, we bought a 7-day Explore Tallinja card for only 21 EUR per person, which allowed us to move around the island using local transportation. Here are some of the places we went to see:
Valletta – the capital city of Malta, is known for its rich history and stunning architecture. This fortified city is a UNESCO World Heritage site and offers a blend of medieval and Baroque influences. We visited the impressive St. John’s Co-Cathedral, enjoyed panoramic views from the Upper Barrakka Gardens, and watched the gun-firing tradition at noon. We even took the ferry to Sliema, just to get a picture of Valletta from the other side.
Mdina – a fortified city in Malta, also known as the “Silent City.” It is located in the northern part of the island and is known for its medieval architecture and narrow streets. We walked around the city and admired the narrow streets and the views. We also had time to visit the Roman Villa and the St. Paul’s catacombs.
Blue Grotto – a famous natural attraction in Malta. It is a series of caves and rock formations located on the southern coast of the island. We took a boat tour to explore the caves and its crystal-clear blue waters. We also spent some time swimming around the area.
Gozo – the second-largest island in the Maltese archipelago. We took a ferry from Malta to Gozo and spent a day exploring its charming villages, and historical sites such as the Ix-Xewkija and the Citadel in Victoria.
