Even before coming to France, it has always been my dream to visit Mont Saint Michel. I first came across this little island through Pinterest and found out that it was the inspiration for the castle used in the animated movie, Tangled.
Mont Saint Michel is located off the coast in the Normandie region. It was one hell of an adventure for us to reach the little island. Jboy’s flight was supposed to arrive in the afternoon, which would give us ample time to rest before our bus to Rennes was scheduled to leave. But his flight got so delayed, we only had an hour to get ready and catch the bus which was leaving at 1:30 am. Once we arrived in Rennes, we waited for a couple of hours to take another bus to get to Mont Saint Michel.
It has been so long since we went to Mont Saint Michel that I am not sure how long it took.
After we got off the bus, we had to walk for a while to get to the island. There were only carriages that would take you directly at the foot of the island, for an additional price. It was still so nice to be able to appreciate the little island as we got closer.
Once we got on the island, we went straight to a random restaurant for lunch. After the quick lunch, we took a tour of the abbey which was the highest point of the island. Although we wanted to see more of the island, J-boy and I were both so tired from the long trip that we wanted to go back home to our Airbnb in Rennes. Maybe someday, we will have the chance to visit the little island again and hopefully be able to enjoy the sunset too.
