Yes, you read it right. I am finally in love! Not with a person though, but I am in love with a place. SIARGAO.
You know that moment where you realize you are in love, when you can’t explain the feeling but somehow you are at peace? That’s how I felt when I was in Siargao.
I was really excited days before we left for Siargao. The weather was so great when we left Cebu but when we got there, we had a rough landing. I thought it was going to be one of those trips where it would suck. But boy, was I wrong?
It took us almost an hour to get to our hotel. When we arrived, we had our overdue lunch and headed to the beach afterwards to surf! If you haven’t tried skateboarding or don’t have a great balance, it will be difficult and will take a while to get the hang of. And trust me, you will love it! The second you are able to stand up and ride your own wave is utterly wonderful and within that moment, I knew that was love at first wave.
It’s a lot like love at first sight where you can’t stop staring at that person and you know you just have to get to know them? But instead, it makes you want to go back to the sea, to get to know each wave for that perfect and beautiful ride. It makes you crave for more rides and bigger waves. It makes you want to forget all your inhibitions you could think of before you even started the trip. As I get to ride more and more waves, my heart was at peace. I was smiling wide enough my cheeks hurt! I didn’t mind I had a lot of bruises, cuts and burns because I was having too much fun!
And like any other day, it has to end at some point. The sun was starting to set and the current was getting too strong, so my first session of surfing ended before it got dark. I slept early that night, my heart at peace and a huge smile on my face, looking forward to the next few days.
The next morning, I woke up early and went out for a morning walk. Our hotel had the perfect location! It was just a walking distance to the famous boardwalk. When I got there, I couldn’t help and stare at the rolling sea. Listening to the beautiful sound of waves crashing and the strong wind blowing, I knew in that moment that I was hooked. So every morning during the trip, I spent my mornings at the boardwalk. Just listening to the nature and breathing in all the good in life. It calmed me, and for a moment, I forgot I was on-call for work. Oops! 😉
My daily routine literally sums up to EAT, SURF, SLEEP, REPEAT. I had the best time of my life and I was bummed out when we had to come back home because of responsibilities.
But I made a promise to myself that I’m coming back within this year. And as of now, I still don’t know when. Until then, I have some awesome photos to remind me how wonderful it is to be in love again.
Love, J.
